Learn about the wonders of wildlife through up close encounters with a variety of the Center’s resident animals.

Little Wonders of Wildlife

For ages 0 – 3

Learn about the wonders of wildlife through up close encounters with a variety of the Center’s resident animals in this 20-minute program geared towards toddlers.

Mondays and Wednesdays
10:30 a.m.

Fee: $5/person. Children under 1 year are free.

Beginner Birding

For ages 15 and up
(If under the age of 18, an adult chaperone is required)

Learn the basics of finding and identifying birds in this immersive program. Spend some time with our expert birder, Tim Jasinski, to explore various habitats while learning about field markings, birding tools, and life lists. Bring your own binoculars or borrow a pair of ours and find out how fun this hobby can be! Dress for the weather and slightly rough terrain. Sign up for one or all sessions!

Feed the Animals

For ages 8 and up with one adult

In this 1.5 hour program, work alongside our wildlife staff to prepare food, treats and enrichment for our resident animals. Then offer them what you’ve made! As we focus on nutrition and diets in this behind-the-scenes, small group program, plan to have awesome and close interactions with our animals.

Fee: $100. Adult chaperone is required and included in program cost.

Junior Keeper

For ages 8 and up with one adult

In this 2.5-hour program, you will have the unique opportunity to work alongside our wildlife staff and experience first-hand how we care for our resident animals. Behind the scenes, you will learn about native and domestic animals while providing food, clean housing and training. There will be plenty of photo opportunities and close encounters with our animals!

Fee: $175. Adult chaperone is required and included in program cost.

Grown-up Keeper

For ages 18 and up

In this 2.5-hour program, you will have the unique opportunity to work alongside our wildlife staff and experience first-hand how we care for our resident animals. Behind the scenes, you will learn about native and domestic animals while providing food, clean housing and training. There will be plenty of photo opportunities and close encounters with our animals!

This program is designed for 1 participant but we are happy to increase to 2 participants if you would like to bring a friend. Please email info@lensc.org to submit a request and begin payment for additional participant.

Intro to Herpetology

For ages 15 and up
(If under the age of 18, an adult chaperone is required)

Welcome to the wonderful world of amphibians and reptiles. This program will introduce you to the basics of herpetology (the scientific study of reptiles and amphibians) through sights and sounds on our planetarium dome, live animal encounters, and a hike to learn how to find scaly or slimy animals in their natural habitats. Dress for the weather and slightly rough terrain.

Marvelous Moths

For all ages

Summer evenings are full of life! This evening, we’ll be focusing on the marvelous moths. Come join our wildlife experts and see what species of moths (or other insects!) our monitoring stations attract and enjoy what nature has to offer at nighttime.

This program will be exclusively outdoors. Please bring flashlights or headlights with you.

Saturday, August 29

Wings

For all ages

Let your bird knowledge take flight in this uplifting program. Explore our specimen collection of real bird wings up close with our Wildlife Rehabilitation Specialist. We will compare and contrast wings from many species including hummingbird, swan and owl to learn how wings do more than just help a bird fly.

Wildlife Rehabilitation and Release

For all ages

Giving animals a second chance at life is a primary focus of Wildlife Rehabilitation. Wildlife Rehabilitation takes time, resources, patience and expert knowledge. In the end, it is all worth it when wildlife can be released back into the wild. Hear from one of our four Wildlife Rehabilitation Specialist about the reasons animals are brought to us, how we care for them and then get a front row view as we release a patient back to their natural habitat.
