Summer 2012From the "always clear" skies in our world-class planetarium to the launching pad of a rocket, amazing adventures await boys and girls ages 3 - 14.

Campers will also experience live wildlife encounters, interactive games, and many more hands-on activities during our space and rocketry camps.

Professional, year-round staff heads up the teaching. Children are grouped by age. Summer camps run June - August each year. Program information for the upcoming season can be found here.

Family Rocket Nights
Date: Thursday, July 3 OR Saturday, August 16 Time/Duration: 6:00 - 9:30 p.m.
  For individuals or groups of all ages Fee: Fee per program: $12/adult; $6/child ages 5+; each rocket $25
This special night if for adults and/or families who want to soar into the sky! Learn about aerodynamics and then build and launch your own rocket. After launch, we'll bring out the telescopes and observe the night sky (weather permitting). Family Rocket Night includes a pizza dinner.

One adult must be present for each child 8 years and younger.

Rocket Camp: Advanced
Date: Fridays, June 27 OR August 15 Time/Duration: 9 a.m. - 5 p.m.
  Please see description below Fee: $60/child
Review rocket aerodynamics and use your skills to build a water rocket you'll use to compete in the “Reach for the Sky” highest flying rocket competition. A complete Estes rocket launch kit will be the prize awarded to the highest flying rocket in both the Advanced 1 and Advanced 2 groups. Advanced campers should be able to read and follow written directions and diagrams. Advanced 1 and 2 campers will separate to build rockets at different skill levels.

Advanced 1
For children who have completed both Grade 4 - 5
and our Beginners Rocket Camp

Advanced 2
For children who have completed Grade 6 - 12
and have experience building model rockets,
or who enjoy tinkering and model building.

Bring a packed lunch; maximum 30 per camp. Family members are encouraged to attend the launching at 4 p.m. Bring a camera!

Rocket Camp: Beginners
Date: Fridays, June 13 OR June 20 Time/Duration: 9 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
  Beginner 1: For children who have completed Grades 2 - 3
Beginner 2: For children who have completed Grades 3- 4
Fee: $45/child
Construct and launch a real rocket! Learn the basics of the aerodynamics of flight with cool hands-on activities and demos. Test these principles with your own glider. Find out how and why rockets fly and how to do so safely. Because these camps require specific reading, fine motor skills and maturity levels, please follow the recommended grade and skill levels.

Beginners 1
For children who have completed Grades 2 - 3

Beginners 2
For children who have completed Grades 3 – 4
and have previously attended our Rocket Camp

Beginners 1 and 2 students will be together for the first half, then separate to build their individual rockets with the help and guidance of our expert staff. Bring a packed lunch; maximum 30 per camp. Family members are encouraged to attend the launching at 3 p.m. Bring a camera!

Space Camp
Date: Monday - Friday, July 7 - 11 Time/Duration: 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
  For children who have completed Grades K - 6 Fee: $350/child; members $300/child
Be one of the very first groups to experience all of the amazing things we can do in the transformed planetarium! Take a 3D trip from the center of the Solar System to the edge of the Universe, stopping at each planet along the way. Find out how astronauts live in space for long periods of time. Design and build your own parachute to land a rover on Mars and so much more!
