Planetarium Public Shows

Green Scene-St. Patrick's Day
Date: Wednesday, March 17, 2010 Time/Duration: 10 - 11 a.m.
  Ages 1 - 5 with an adult Fee: $5/child
Turtles, toads, and trees! Explore all things green on St. Patrick's Day!

Spring Rain Barrel Workshop
Date: Saturday, April 24, 2010 Time/Duration: 9 - 11 a.m.
  For adults and families: children ages 8 and up with at least one adult Fee: $80 first barrel; $50 each additional barrel
Make your own rain barrel to take home and begin using water straight from Mother Nature to nurture your garden and lawn. Build your barrel as an individual or make it a family project. Children who participate should be 8 years or older. ADULTS ONLY will operate power tools.  Bring your own drill and jigsaw, if you have them!

Eggstravaganza
Date: Friday, April 2, 2010 Time/Duration: For ages 1-3 with an adult: 9, 10 OR 11a.m

For ages 3-5 with an adult: 12:30 OR 1:30 p.m.

For ages 5-8 with an adult: 3 p.m.
  Ages 1-3; 3-5 or 5-8 with an adult
Fee: $7/child; member $5/child
What’s more fun than a good old-fashioned egg hunt? Search the Center’s grounds for eggs and if you are lucky enough, you may even find a “golden egg”-- which will win you an “eggcellent” prize! Enjoy a visit with one of our resident long-eared hoppers. Weather not cooperating? We’ll move our hunt inside!

Winter and Spring Animals a la Mode

  For families of ALL ages Fee: $5/person (1 and under free)
It's show time and you've never seen our animals like this! Live creatures will captivate the whole family as they (and maybe YOU) take center stage in our upbeat, interactive and educational show. Top off the outing with some delicious ice cream! Each program is unique--attend one or all.

Family Campout Night 2010
Date: Friday night to Saturday, June 18-19 Time/Duration: 6 p.m. Friday June 18 - 9:30 a.m. Saturday June 19
  For all ages Fee: $50/family; members $40/family

Want to try camping with your little ones, but don’t know where to start? Already a casual camping family looking for a reason to break out the old tent? This is the night for you! Our annual campout will include live animal visits, camping safety, fire-side stories, stargazing and breakfast.

Purchase a boxed dinner or pack a picnic. Bring your own tent and sleep gear. 

A detailed letter with items to bring will be sent upon registration.

In the event of inclement weather, all activities, including sleeping, will take place inside the Center.

Meet an Animal - Spring
Date: Select Saturdays - See description Time/Duration: 3 p.m
  All ages are welcome! Fee: Free!
Have a close encounter with the wildlife at Lake Erie Nature & Science Center during this free, family friendly, hands-on program! 

February 27 - The Opossum
Come and visit with one of our most interesting educational animals. The lives of these ubiquitous, trash-eating suburban animals are poorly understood by most people. After listening, seeing and touching, you will leave with a newfound appreciation for these unique animals.

March 6 - The Great Horned Owl
People are intrigued by owls, especially the awesome Great Horned Owl. In this program, we will discuss interesting facts about the “Tiger of the Woods” while viewing a live one up-close and personal. 

March 13 - The Turkey Vulture: Buzzard, Bird-of-Prey, or Stork?
With the help of our live Turkey Vulture, we’ll explore the misconceptions and fascinating truths about this commonly misunderstood animal. Director of Wildlife, Dave Wolf will discuss all the "gross-out" habints of this creratures including vomiting, bed-wetting, even nose-picking! (Are we talking about children or wildlife?) Not for the weak of stomach but everyone welcome!

April 17 - The Screech Owl
This owl is a common Ohio inhabitant but often overlooked because of its small size. We will have an unusual look at it (in the daylight and indoors) and discuss its life in the wild.
