This concept is easily taught with a hands-on demonstration, in which all attending students will participate.  Watch the moon as it revolves around Earth creating its phases as we cover the mechanics of solar & lunar eclipses.  You will hear your students say, “WOW!” as they suddenly realize how easy it is to understand.  If time permits, this program includes a brief planetarium overview of our night sky and space news events.

Reasons for the Seasons
Date: Available Year-round Time/Duration: 1 hour
  Grades 2-8 Fee: First 15-90 minutes: $150 /$60 deposit
Each additional 30 minutes: $45
This program features great demonstrations showing why we have seasons. Experience the changing height of the sun in the sky at different times of the year as well as see the Earth and its tilt as it revolves around the sun. You will understand why it gets hotter or colder, why days get shorter and longer, and why the sun doesn’t set in summer at the North Pole.  This presentation can also be a great 30-minute addition to Phases of the Moon.  (Due to time and space considerations, it is not recommended to combine this program with Phases of the Moon in the StarLab.)

This very popular class really hits all seven Fifth Grade “Physical Sciences/Nature of Energy” standards. We will explore: what IS light, mixing of colors, how we see colors, why we can’t see infrared, and why x-rays pass through our bodies. Students will also discover how sounds can be similar to light in their pitch vs. color frequency--how we can SEE sound! This fun class really holds student interest with “COOL” interactive demonstrations!
