Cub Scout programs for Tiger, Wolf, Bear and Webelos:

  • Join us on an adventure as we explore the natural world in our newly revised programs.
  • No minimums; Sign up as a den/pack or as an individual scout.
  • Please bring your scouting book on the night of the program.
  • Each Tuesday evening or Sunday afternoon is a different program, rotating through Tiger, Wolf, Bear, and Webelos.
  • Cost is $8 per Scout; $4 for each additional child and $4 for each adult.
  • Pre-registration is required.  Please register at least two (2) weeks before the program date. Registration closes 48 hours before the program.
  • Registration for 2017-18 begins on August 15, 2017.
  • Full payment is due at time of registration.

Gather your pack together and come to Lake Erie Nature & Science Center for a fun-filled evening!  Enjoy custom programming including an up-close encounter with the Center resident animals during an animal presentation, exploring our natural world with nature hikes, expanding your Cub Scouting skills, and taking a trip into space in our newly renovated Planetarium.  Finish the evening around the campfire with a light snack.

Each program will be age-appropriate for each Cub Scout level in the pack. Minimum total attendance is 50 participants - Packs from the same city can combine together for this event!


Pre-registration is required for all Cub Scout programming.

Tiger Cub-Backyard Jungle Adventure

Come explore the universe in your backyard at Lake Erie Nature & Science Center!  First, we will go on a short hike (only 1 foot long!) as we discover the bugs, birds and animals that share the outdoors with us. We will investigate local birds and listen for animals “talking”. Then we will build a birdhouse and start a plant for the animals.

Scouting is all about going outdoors so come explore Lake Erie Nature & Science Center and the Huntington Reservation as we go out on a hike!  Bring the Cub Scout Six Essentials (filled water bottle, first-aid kit, flashlight, whistle, sun protection and trail food) and hike to discover plants and animals that live in our forest. Back at the Center we will experience an up-close wildlife encounter with a variety of animals, including mammals, reptiles and birds of prey. Protect the natural world as you listen to the Outdoor Code and Leave No Trace Principles for Kids.

Complete requirements 1, 2, 3a-c, 4, 6 & 7.

Come discover the wonders of the night sky! You will start outside with observing the night sky with both your eyes and a telescope. Bad weather is not a problem since we have the Walter R. Schuele Planetarium as our indoor night sky! Chart two constellations, create and name our own constellation and create a homemade constellation. Many astronauts were Scouts when they were younger. Investigate the lives of two astronauts and discover if you could be a rocket scientist.

Camping is another fantastic outdoor activity for Scouts. Being prepared is an important step in making your camping trip fun and safe. Explore what to pack and how to pack. Identify different animals that you might find on a camping trip with an up-close wildlife encounter with a variety of animals, including mammals, reptiles and birds of prey. Discuss weather preparedness, safety rules and recite the Outdoor Code and Leave No Trace Principles for Kids.

Wolf Cub-Finding Your Way Adventure

Exploring outdoors is all about knowing where you are going and how to get back to where you started. Using a map we will identify where we are starting, what items can be found in our area and which direction we are traveling. Using a compass we will explore the Huntington Reservation on a scavenger hunt and hike. Do not forget your Cub Scout Six Essentials and to dress for the weather!

Air is all around us and important to our survival. Now it is time to have fun playing with air. Investigate how we can perform experiments about the weight of air, air temperature and how air affects an object. Create a musical instrument and listen to air movement. We will investigate air speed and kite safety rules. After you finish making a kite, you can hold your own den kite derby!

Bear Cub-Forensics Adventure

Investigate what you need to know to be a forensic scientist and help solve crimes. Analyze your fingerprints, explore chromatography, perform a chemical analysis and make a shoe imprint. We will feature a special guest presentation by a Cleveland Metroparks Ranger to inform us how they use forensics in their job.

Bear Cub-Fur, Feathers & Ferns Adventure

Scouting is all about going outdoors so come explore Lake Erie Nature & Science Center and the Huntington Reservation as we go out on an one mile hike!  Be prepared by bringing the Cub Scout Six Essentials (filled water bottle, first-aid kit, flashlight, whistle, sun protection and trail food) and identify plants and animals that live in our forest.  We will use binoculars to see wildlife from a distance and magnifying glasses to see plants up-close. Back at the Center view a bird that has become extinct in the last 100 years and another bird that is currently endangered. Learn about composting and plant a pizza garden.

Bear Cub-A Bear Goes Fishing Adventure

Do you think that a “strike” only occurs in bowling?  Do you want to learn about fishing?  Join us as we learn to identify three different kinds of Lake Erie fish.  Practice casting with a rod and reel and rig a pole with a line and hook.  Learn the rules of safe fishing and the local fishing laws.  You will take home a fishing assembly so that all you need for fishing is to add the water!

Enjoy identifying trees and plants with a hike through the forest of Huntington Reservation.  Explore the components of a tree, their functions, and some of the ways people and animals use these plants.  Examine the growth rings of a tree and explain how the rings tell its life history.  Develop a plan to care for a plant that you will start. Identify items in your home or around the Center made from wood.

Explore the fascinating world of rocks as you hike to Porter Creek and examine our local geology, look for fossils and begin a rock collection, including a sample of our state gemstone. Discover a geological feature left here many years ago in the Huntington Reservation by the glaciers. Investigate geological building materials used in your home or your community. Demonstrate the power of a volcano and explore geology in action.

Whether we live in the city, the suburbs or the country there is wildlife all around us. Come to Lake Erie Nature & Science Center and view our outdoor wildlife and our resident animals to identify wild creatures in our area.  Investigate a food chain and learn about aquatic ecosystems with the displays in our Exhibit Hall.  Understand the importance of protecting our wildlife and how we can live together in a mutually beneficial way.

Create a hike plan, assemble a hiking first aid kit, and recite the Outdoor Code and Leave No Trace Principles for Kids. Identify poisonous plants, venomous reptiles and dangerous animals/insects in our area. Be prepared to take a three mile hike with your den to complete this adventure.

Do you enjoy hands-on science investigation? If your answer is yes, this adventure is for you! Design and perform experiments like a real-life scientist! Build a model solar system, study the night sky, construct electrical circuits and explore chemical reactions. Prepare three questions to ask one of our science staff about their work.
