Cub Scout programs for Tiger, Wolf, Bear and Webelos:

  • Earn the complete Achievement, Elective or Badge in our updated programs
  • No minimums; Sign up as a den/pack or as an individual scout
  • Each Tuesday evening is a different program, rotating through Tiger, Wolf, Bear, and Webelos
  • Cost is $8 per Scout; No cost for adults (Exception: Planetarium Programs - See program listing for cost)
  • Pre-registration is required.  Please register at least two (2) weeks before program date.
  • Full payment is due at time of registration; Payment may be made by check (payable to LENSC), cash or Visa/Mastercard/Discover

You will start your exploration of space using the Walter R. Schuele Planetarium as your guide. You will diagram the solar system, learn space terms and focus on telescopes.  You will complete the Astronomy Belt Loop and start some of the requirements for the Astronomy Academics Pin.

Tiger Cub-Reduce, Reuse, Recycle - Elective 47
Date: Tuesday, January 10, 2012 Time/Duration: 7 - 8 p.m.
  Tiger Cub Scout (Gr. 1) Fee: $8/scout
Learn about what you can recycle in your community and how you can recycle at home.  Learn about things that need to be recycled in special ways. Then make a recycle project that you can use at home.

Tiger Cub-Feed the Birds - Elective 32

Meet our feathered friends who make this area their home.  Talk with a hawk, study an owl and visit our American Bald Eagle.  Make a bird feeder to take home and learn tips to bring birds into your backyard.  Complete Elective 32 - Feed the Birds with this program.

Tiger Cub-Let's Go Outdoors - Achievement 5

Let's go outdoors to explore around the Center and Huntington Reservation!  Discover fascinating facts about the weather and check our local weather.  Then, head out on a nature hike to study the local animals and plants.  Create a lasting memory of your visit with a leaf rubbing project to keep or give as a gift.  Complete Achievement 5 - Let's Go Outdoors with this program.

Note:  This program includes a nature hike.  Please dress in the appropriate clothing and shoes for the weather!

Tiger Cub-Learn About Animals - Elective 31
Date: Tuesday, February 7, 2012 Time/Duration: 7 - 8 p.m.
  Tiger Cub Scout (Gr. 1) Fee: $8/scout
Experience on up-close encounter with a variety of animals, including mammals, reptiles and birds of prey.  Explore the Center's wildlife exhibits as you choose your favorite animal and learn how big it is, where it lives, what kind of food it eats, how long it lives, what sounds it makes and if it is endangered.  Complete Elective 31 - Learn About Animals with this program.

Learn the ABC's of birding as you identify ten different kinds of birds that reside in your neighborhood.  Make a bird feeder from recycled materials, learn the importance of water to birds and provide nesting materials to attract our feather friends.  Complete Elective 13 - Birds with this program.

Wolf Cub-Your Living World - Achievement 7

Identify how land, water and air get dirty.  Learn how your community might recycle.  Plan a neighborhood litter pickup project.  Find out how to save energy in addition to recycling and put that knowledge into action.  Listen to three stories of people who made a difference in protecting our world's natural resources.  Can you make a difference too?  Complete Achievement 7 - Your Living World with this program.

Wolf Cub-Fishing - Elective 19

  Wolf Cub Scout (Gr. 2) Fee: $8/scout
Practice casting with a rod and reel.  Rig a pole with a line and hook.  Identify five different kinds of Lake Erie fish.  Learn the rules of safe fishing and the local fishing laws.  Take home a fishing assembly so that all you need for a fishing expedition is to add the water!  Complete Elective 19 - Fishing with this program.

Bear Cub-Maps-Elective 23

Experience the wonderful world of cartography as you explore your state and world using maps.  You will locate where you live, travel through time zones and explore your neighborhood.  You will learn to draw maps and also how to use advanced mapping technologies such as a GPS.

If you recycle, plant trees or turn off lights that are not in use, you are making a difference and taking care of our planet.  What to do more?  Discover where our trash goes after it is hauled away.  Identify how water is used, or misused, in your home.  Study what kinds of energy your house uses and how electricity is made to power Northeast Ohio.  Complete Achievement 6 - Take Care of Your Planet with this program.

Bear Cub-Sharing Your World with Wildlife - Achievement 5

Experience an up-close encounter with a variety of animals, including mammals, reptitles and birds of prey to learn how they live.  Build a bird house to provide shelter to the birds and learn what a Wildlife Conservation Officer does to educate people about wildlife.  Learn about animals that have become extinct in the last 100 years.  Complete Achievement 5 - Sharing Your World with Wildlife with this program.

Bear Cub - Space Arrow - Elective 1
Date: Tuesday, February 21, 2012 Time/Duration: 7 - 8:15 p.m.
  Bear Cub Scout (Gr. 3) Fee: $8/scout

Explore the night sky inside the Walter R. Schuele Planetarium.  Identify three constellations and find the North Star, learn about man-made and natural satellites, build a model of a rocket or space satellite and learn about planets in our solar system.  Complete all the requirements of Elective 1 - Space.

Webelos-Forester Activity Badge

  Webelos Cub Scout (Gr. 4 & 5) Fee: $8/scout
Identify trees and plants on a hike through the forest of Huntington Reservation.  Explore the components of a tree, their functions, and some of the ways people and animals use these plants.  Examine the growth rings of a tree and explain how the rings tell its life history.  Understand the benefits and harm that wildfires can cause to a forest ecosystem.  Draw an urban forestry plan for your yard or neighborhood.  Complete the Forester Activity Badge with this program.

Note:  This program includes a nature hike.  Please dress in the appropriate clothing and shoes for the weather!

Webelos-Naturalist Activity Badge

  Webelos Cub Scout (Gr. 4 & 5) Fee: $8/scout
Become a naturalist who studies living creatures and plants in the wild.  Study our resident animals to learn to identify local birds, snakes, and mammals. Learn how litter can harm animals and take that information back to our neighborhood to correct hazards.  Identify a bird flyway, learn which birds use them, and build a bird feeder. Find out about poisonous plants and venomous animals in our area.  Complete the Naturalist Activity Badge with this program.

Webelos-Geologist Actvity Badge

  Webelos Cub Scout (Gr. 4 & 5) Fee: $8/scout
Explore the three main types of rocks, how they are formed, and the ways they are useful in our homes and daily lives. Examine five geologic specimens and study the formation of a volcano.  Hike to Porter Creek and check out our local geology, look for fossils, and begin a rock collection, including a sample of our state gemstone.  Complete the Geologist Activity Badge with this program.
